Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation

Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation was founded in 1992 by Kathleen A. Casey, and named for her son Barrett “Bear” Krupa, who at the age of eight, died from Wilms Tumor, a pediatric cancer. The foundation was begun after many discussions between Kathleen and Bear, in which he continually expressed more concern for the other children in the hospital than himself.

Bear Necessities’ mission is to eliminate pediatric cancer and to provide hope and support to those who are touched by it. The foundation carries out this mission through its two programs:

Bear Hugs Program, a customized experience to bring joy to a child’s life while battling cancer and also providing financial assistance to the child’s family.

Bear Discoveries, which offers nationwide research grants to junior investigators who make meaningful cure and therapeutic advancements toward pediatric cancers.
